The influence of "enlightened absolutism" began to be felt in Portugal during the reign of King Joseph I.
This lead a very important university restructuring. New statues were formally introduced by Marques
de Pombal on September 29, 1772. It is from that time that the marks of the "Pombal Refromation"
began to appear.
